P#40: Tough Meets Tender with a Mom Tattoo
This little boy is only too happy to show off his I Love Mom tattoo
Is it the boy's age or his expression that makes his Mom tattoo so completely adorable? In her recent interview, Vik Orenstein explained how she used face paint to create such an impressive visual.
Show Off Your Muscles!
Vik Orenstein: This one was for Mother's Day. I was just playing with the idea of using face paint and painting mom and hearts and stuff all over the kids in different places. We painted it on this guy's bicep. Then we asked him to show off his muscles for the camera. This is what we got. (click the image for a larger version)
It was cute in direct color but it was much more interesting in black and white. Yet I didn't want to part with the bright red and white from the face painting so I just went ahead and pulled that through from the under layer, the direct color layer underneath my black and white, so we could keep that there.
I'm normally not a big fan of selective color where you just color certain areas of the picture, but I thought this was so funky that I would go ahead and give myself permission to do it.
Audri Lanford: This is another one where you really feel like you have an insight to the child, looking at it.
Vik Orenstein: Oh yes, his expression is so open. He was a great subject.
In Closing
Great photography is about communicating an emotion -- and we dare you to look at this guy's Mom tattoo and not crack a smile!
