P#36: A Precarious Climb to Capture This Shot of Mount Robson

Ed Cooper braves the elements and faces danger to get this amazing shot of Mount Robson

Not many people can get such an amazing shot of Mount Robson. It is, after all, one of the hardest peaks to reach in the Canadian Rockies. Ed Cooper, however, isn't your average mountain photographer, and this picture is proof of it.

Where Others Fear to Tread

Ed Cooper: The next picture here was taken from up on Mount Robson, which is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. All the elements came together perfectly here -- the cornice, the climber in the background, the highlighting of the cornice. (click the image for a larger version)

This is no easy spot to get to. Mount Robson is a difficult climb, even by its easiest route. It has no completely safe route to the top. All routes have some degree of objective danger.

This is my favorite picture that I've gotten on Mount Robson. It's just a great climbing shot. It was taken with a 2 1/4 folding camera.

In Summary

Nothing worth having comes easy, and that's definitely true in the case of this Mount Robson photograph. Getting to the place to take the shot may have been dangerous, but the effort paid off in the end.
