Beauty in the Desert

Ed Cooper: This picture of a desert in bloom is a great illustration of backlighting, and how the backlighting intensifies the colors in the foreground, like the flowers. (click the image for a larger version)

Those flowers are Mexican poppies. There are also some blue lupine there. In the distance you can see the Ajo Mountains in Arizona.

Audri Lanford: Did you have to wait for the clouds or were they there?

Ed Cooper: I took a number of exposures and the important thing in this picture is to have the sun on the flowers. I did take a number of exposures, and I picked the one that I felt was best.
