P#36: A Majestic Photograph of Shiprock
Ed Cooper shares the details behind this sunset shot of Shiprock in New Mexico
This picture of Shiprock was accomplished with help from some great lighting. Here Ed Cooper explains how he achieved such a gorgeous shot.
The Color of Beauty
Ed Cooper: The next image is of Shiprock in New Mexico. This is one of those pictures that I made use of good side lighting at sunset. It just caught the mountain just right. Almost all of these images, except for two of them here, are film images so I digitally scanned them on my scanner and made them in jpegs or psd files. (click the image for a larger version)
This same picture appeared in black and white in the first Soul of the Heights book.
Audri Lanford: Well, I'm glad you showed the color version. It's very striking with the sunset.
To Sum Up
There is no denying the fact that black and white photographs can be quite striking, but there's much to be said for color when it's done right. This beautiful shot of Shiprock in New Mexico is proof of the fact that color photos can be just as striking as black and white, if not more so.
