P#30: An Intriguing Macro Shot of Milkweed Seeds
Kathleen Clemons explains how she achieved this ethereal shot of milkweed seeds
Milkweed seeds may not seem like everyone's idea of a great photography subject, but Kathleen Clemons proves just how beautiful they can be. Here she explains what went into this shot.
Natural Beauty
Kathleen Clemons: Milkweed seeds are one of my very favorite subjects to photograph. I just love fall, when the milkweed pods start to open. (click the image for a larger version)
I shot this one just in my living room. It's a Composer shot actually with the +4 macro diopter on the front. All my work is natural light. I never use flash so it's just window light and the magic of milkweed.
Audri Lanford: The light there is just glowing.
Kathleen Clemons: Thank you. That was what I liked about the image.
In Summary
Can natural light create surreal images? If you do it right they can. By combining a +4 macro diopter with natural light and a great subject, Kathleen was able to create a stunning shot of these beautiful milkweed seeds.
