P#30: A Colorful Calla Lily
How being in the right place at the right time resulted in this vibrant calla lily photograph
If Kathleen Clemons hadn't been in the right place at the right time, this calla lily picture may never have come to be. Here she talks about how the timing of the lighting was just as important as the subject in this amazing photo.
Shape and Light
Kathleen Clemons: This is a photograph of a calla lily. I shot it in my backyard.
I am addicted to calla lilies. I love them. I love the shapes and I never tire of shooting them. My challenge now is to shoot them in ways that I haven't before, and the Lensbaby is wonderful for that. (click the image for a larger version)
What caught my eye with this one was the light. It was very early in the morning and light was coming through the Lensbaby and that wonderful curve.
Audri Lanford: Where was the light coming from on this one?
Kathleen Clemons: It was behind the flower, sort of coming up through it. It was one of those, "Oh!" moments that I couldn't get to it fast enough.
In Closing
Would this photograph be as dramatic if the light wasn't coming from the same place? Probably not. This calla lily picture is the perfect example of how finding the right light at the right time can make all the difference in the results of your photography shoots.
