P#19: A Magical Shot of Hoarfrost in Autumn
Jim Zuckerman explains how Mother Nature can help take your fall pictures to the next level using props like hoarfrost
This picture of hoarfrost in autumn is just another example of how unexpected photo opportunities can pop up when you're not even looking for them. In fact, some of the most spectacular fall photographs are shots that aren't planned, but are stumbled upon instead. Jim Zuckerman explains further as he discusses this amazing hoarfrost shot.
On the Road Home
Jim Zuckerman: Remember earlier in the interview when I was saying autumn shots with snow in the can be amazing? This picture is a perfect example.
It's not snow in this photograph. It was actually hoarfrost, which is just as good. When you have either snow or hoarfrost in contrast with the autumn leaves, you can get some really incredible images.
This picture was taken at a pond. I was driving along the road and came across this spot. That wonderful white in contrast with the lollipop effect just made a spectacular shot. (click the image for a larger version)
I had originally come to the area to photograph a really pretty barn and I was leaving the barn when I came across this. I just had to jam on my brakes when I saw the shot.
To Sum Up
Some of the best shots pop up when you least expect them. Jim Zuckerman had originally come to this area to photograph a local barn, but left with an amazing hoarfrost shot to add to his collection of breathtaking fall scenery.
