P#17: An Impromptu - Yet Stunning - Shot of Giant Sequoias
This stunning shot of giant sequoias proves that photo expeditions aren't the only time for landscape photography
This shot of giant sequoias looks like it was planned. After all, you'd have to scout out such a wonderful photo opportunity, wouldn't you? According to Bill Neill, that's the furthest thing from what happened here.
Impromptu Art
This photograph of giant sequoias was taken in Yosemite. It is a composition that I've made with a four by five from pretty much the same location. (click the image for a larger version)
For a few decades I have loved that spot. I came back to this spot when I was out for a walk with my family and relatives that were visiting. I was not on a photographic expedition. I just stopped for a few minutes and made at least 50 or 60 images with different combinations of shutter speed and aperture and camera movement and came up with this one.
In Closing
While many people think a photo expedition is required for awe-inspiring photography, Bill Neill proves otherwise. There is no question that planning is good. However, this shot of the giant sequoias was taken when on a walk with family and friends.
