P#15: An Insightful Shot of Dogs and Wolves

How Jenni Bidner used photography to prove that dogs and wolves are similar, yet different

After studying wolves for quite some time and working with search and rescue dogs, Jenni Bidner knows that dogs and wolves are very similar... yet very different. These pictures show the similarities between the two.

The Similarities of Dogs and Wolves

The last shot is the fun shot. This was taken for my wolf book because I wanted to show canine behavior and wolf behavior.

In both of these pictures, the dogs and wolves are playing. It's this dance, and if you don't know dogs you think they're killing each other. (click the image for a larger version)

Dogs And Wolves They're actually doing this wonderful dance with their teeth flaring and they never really touch each other and never really damage each other but it's a basic learning to fight, keeping in shape, getting their reflexes, and learning pack behavior.

For shooting thousands of shots, I was able to take certain types of shots that matched up between the wolf and the dog. That is my Yukon, the German Shepherd, who is retired and a troublemaker agent.

Audri Lanford: I love that comparison.

Jenni Bidner: It really surprised me how much the dogs and wolves are the same, and how incredibly different they were.

Wolves simply are not dogs. That's what I learned the most and that's what I hope I brought out in my book -- that while they're very similar, they're still very different.

To Conclude

Sometimes pictures can tell or story or teach a lesson. That's exactly what Jenni Binder did with these pictures of dogs and wolves.
