P#13: A Photograph of Wildflowers on Ruby Mountain

Jennifer Wu captures some beautiful flower scenery at Ruby Mountain

Sometimes angle and perspective can make all the difference when photographing flowers, as Jennifer Wu illustrated with this shot at Ruby Mountain. Here she explains how she captured it.

Depth and Perspective

Jennifer Wu: This photograph is of some wildflowers at Ruby Mountain. I took it using the wide angle lens so that the flowers were just a few feet in front of me. This allowed me to get that kind of perspective from near to far.

Here we've got the flowers, then the mountains, and the sky. It was one of those things where I called someone up and asked them, "Are the flowers in bloom? Alright, I'm coming over." (click the image for a larger version)

Just going back, in some years the flowers are terrible and some years the flowers are good. It all varies. Timing is just as important as perspective and equipment.

In Conclusion

If you want to get stunning landscape photographs, equipment and timing are equally important. When Jennifer Wu got this shot at Ruby Mountain, it was a combination of perspective, equipment and the flowers being at their best that allowed her to create this dramatic photograph.
