P#13: A Photograph of a Star Scene from a Hawaiian Observatory
Jennifer Wu gets a dramatic shot of the stars from a Hawaiian observatory
Sometimes you have to find unique places to get great photographs of the nighttime sky -- say a Hawaiian observatory for example. That's exactly where Jennifer Wu went to get this amazing nighttime shot.
A Room with a View
Jennifer Wu: This photograph of the stars was taken from a Hawaiian observatory on the Big Island. That is the Milky Way going across them. It's at dusk so I have a few clouds in there and it's a little bit lighter because of that.
There's no pollution in the sky. It's so clear. We could see the stars in the sky before the sunlight had completely faded. (click the image for a larger version)
The glow in the background is from a volcano that was erupting. There are a couple of spots where it's erupting. That's where the glow came from. There was also a glow in the pink light in the clouds. That was not from the sunset -- that was from the volcano too.
In Conclusion
Location can make all the difference when getting breathtaking photos that really make an impression. For this beautiful shot, Jennifer Wu went to a Hawaiian observatory right before sunset.
