P#13: A Dramatic Shot of a Bristlecone Pine

Jennifer Wu uses a flashlight to get this amazing bristlecone pine shot

Sometimes you have to add a little of your own magic if you want the perfect shot, which is exactly how Jennifer Wu captured this image of a bristlecone pine. Here she explains exactly what she did.

Let the Light Shine

When I took a picture of these trees, I lit them with a flashlight. Not for the entire part of the exposure, but for a little part of it.

I actually had my friend on flashlight duty so he lit the flashlight (just a little handheld flashlight, nothing special) on the one with the bristlecone pine tree there.

In Summary

Sometimes Mother Nature doesn't provide us with the lighting we need for the ultimate picture, and traditional flash methods just won't do the trick. That's when we need to get creative, as Jennifer Wu did with a flashlight in this picture of the bristlecone pine.
